We're having such a fun time learning about our Country! Here's a little of what we did last week, and what we're working on this week!

PERSONS OF INTEREST: Thomas Jefferson last week, George Washington, this week

QUOTES ON HONOR:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all me are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain
unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"-Thomas Jefferson

"When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fear the people there is liberty"-Thomas Jefferson

QUOTES ON FAITH:
"It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible"-George Washington

"What students would learn in
American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ"-George Washington

Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors"-George Washington

DEVOTIONAL:
We discussed the virtues "Honor" and "Faith", and talked about the people of history who had these qualities and the importance of us having them now. We are memorizing quotes and scriptures related to these virtues.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Younger students have been working on phonics memorization, which helps with reading and spelling, penmanship and reading in level appropriate books. Older students have begun "word studies", and have completed writing assignments related to the theme of the week. We are focusing on
sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation.

MATH: Children have been doing level appropriate lessons each day and practicing their math facts.

LITERATURE: We have been reading folk tales, and fairy tales, and historical biographies, etc. as well as continuing our novel "Annie Henry And The Secret Mission"

HISTORY
: We have been discussing famous men and women of the American Revolution and specifically we talked about Thomas Jefferson and the courage, honor and faith that it took for him to write the Declaration of Independence. We talked about what he went through to write it, what it means and why it was so important, and why we still celebrate that great event today! We also discussed the Constitution, a brief history of it's conception, the key players, and the difference between these two documents. We also learned thePreamble to the Constitution in sign language!

This week we are talking about George Washington, why he was a hero, and about the great faith that he had and how he used his faith to save America when it was in it's infancy. We learned about
Valley Forge and the battle of Trenton which turned the momentum of the war and watched a movie about Valley Forge and George Washington. We are also learning lots of new songs that we plan to sing for you on Thursday July 8th-THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL AT 1:00 P.M.!

SCIENCE; We learned about volcanoes! How they are formed, the "anatomy" of a volcano, where most volcanoes are found and we learned about the Scientific Method and we are using that method to do an experiment with our volcanoes. We erupted them this week and had soooo much fun!
